Re: Sick or stressed?

oh dear, sorry to hear that! in all honesty, it seemed a little too late for the poor thing anyway. new acc's on here are taking a day or two for approval because of the number of spam coming in. I've lost my fair share of fish, and feel your pain.

Re: Sick or stressed?

Hi, it sounds like bloat. Have you tried changing the food a little? Also, try a little epsom salt, approx 1/8 teaspoon per gallon. Hopefully will come right!

Re: Made my decision

I came across black limestone, and I have to admit I've never seen it before. Our usual stuff is always cream or tan-colored. But I learned something new today - black limestone is a natural stone from South India, with a really interesting texture from being hand-split. Apparently, it's got a ...

Re: Made my decision

I recall a mate who had a massive tank, chock-full of various Africans, and he'd always be tinkering with the layout. He'd rearrange these limestone slabs every week during water changes, just to keep things from boiling over.

Re: Made my decision

Considering your species list, I was wondering if you're thinking of adding some dwarf petricola snails to the mix? I've been eyeing a trio of them for my own setup.

Re: A male peacock in a 75-gallon hap tank

I used to keep Rift Lake fish back in the day, about 20 years ago - our tap water is really hard here, so it was a good match for me. The colors you can get from them are hard to beat, especially if you're not ready to take the plunge into a marine tank. I never bothered with driftwood back then ...

Re: improving fish food for enhanced colour

My water parameters have been pretty consistent since introducing the Rummy's and Rams, I'd say that's a fair statement anyway.

Re: improving fish food for enhanced colour

I've noticed some amazing coloration on my tetras and electric blue rams lately. Since I started feeding Bacter AE, specifically for the bio film eaters, I've seen a real difference. I'm also feeding Repashi Soilient green, which is mainly for the bio film eaters, but all the fish seem to enjoy it ...

Re: Discovering the diversity of hillstream loaches (with pictures)

I only have 3 lineolata, but a bunch of smaller Hillstreams that fit the same general body style... the lizards, though, are my first real departure from that traditional look. I mean, you'd think they'd all be Gastromyzon something, but the lizards and Saddled Hillstreams seem to be a different ...

Re: Discovering the diversity of hillstream loaches (with pictures)

I've been thinking about the temperature requirements for these Hillstreams, and from what I've gathered, they're cooler water species. The other fish in my tank are similar, so I've got my thermostat set to the low 70's, just to be safe. Since my tanks are in the basement, I prefer to run a heater ...
