Good call on the substrate. I switched to sand a few months ago and my corys are constantly sifting through it. It's adorable to watch, and their barbels look much healthier now.

Freeze-dried daphnia can work, but rehydrate it first or it might cause bloating. I soak mine in tank water for a few minutes before feeding. My corys seem to prefer it that way, and it's easier on their digestive system.

I think using a toothpick is a great idea for feeding your remaining fry one by one, especially since there's only a few left. Egg yolk is also a good alternative, I've heard it works in a pinch.
