Yeah, I was thinking of adding some colour to it, maybe with cement dye, but choosing a colour is proving to be a real challenge. I'll be applying about three layers of cement, so that should keep everything secure and strong. I'd love to use real rocks, but I'm hesitant because of the weight ...

all the polystyrene is now stuck together, just need to get the cement on and it's in place!

creating a 3d background for my cichlids

Just started building my 3D background, got the polystyrene and I'm making progress.
I'll be using polystyrene, cement, and some special silicone for fish, should be good.
Here are some pics so far,

I started on one side of the background, then decided to strip the tank, haha, my room's a mess ...

I use CaribSea Aragonite- Seaflor special grade reef sand, it's a premium product that comes right from the ocean. It's got natural minerals like potassium, magnesium, and calcium, and buffers that play/pool sand doesn't. I think a lot of people opt for sand because it's cheaper, but Aragonite keeps ...

To be honest, I'm a bit surprised you haven't checked your pH levels in a while. Aragonite isn't actually shells, it's a type of calcium carbonate. I'm not sure if that pool filter sand would be good, would it get everywhere in the tank or is it heavier than the other sands?

Yeah, I'm using Kiln Dry sand at the moment, thanks for letting me know the name of it.
