Re: my cichlids seem dull, what can i do?

I think Moby said it best, your setup's come a long way. I've got no issue with plastic ornaments personally, but I can see why they wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. Those sharp edges, though, would've been a problem waiting to happen.

You've actually got a powerhead in your tank already - it's ...

Good point. Also, avoid burying the rhizome when attaching Anubias or Java Fern to driftwood or rocks. Burying it can cause rot and halt growth entirely.

Re: why won't my plants grow faster?

Anubias and Java Fern are slow growers by nature, but let's troubleshoot. What's your photoperiod? Are you dosing any liquid fertilizers? Also, check if your light's PAR rating is sufficient for these plants.

Re: discussing fish

It really comes down to personal preference, your initial plans, and the specifics of your setup. Some people have a clear vision for their tank, whether it's centered around a particular fish or a unique feature, and that dictates their stocking choices and environment. The possibilities for a 30 ...

Re: Is this sand safe for my aquarium?

The advice on the package is legit, it's all about being careful with the dust. Not a huge deal, but still worth considering. It's similar to wearing dust masks and eye protection when doing any dusty job - up to you, but recommended. If you've got the stuff, I wouldn't worry about it in the tank ...

Re: is this a tilapia?

Thanks Dr Rob, I was leaning towards Redbelly tilapia T. zilii, but I appreciate your input. I've got a question about the tail spots - do all tilapia develop those, or is it specific to certain species? And if so, do the juveniles typically have them, or is that something that comes later as they ...

Re: is this a tilapia?

I'm fairly confident that these are indeed tilapia mossambicus. The body shape and coloration are quite consistent with this species. I've had some experience with cichlids and these little guys seem to match the juvenile tilapia profile.

Re: Distinguishing between aussie and indo gold hammer wall corals

Aussie's got the fatter polyps, that's the key difference. Don't even think about buying without seeing it in person, trust me on that one. When you do buy, make sure to check for receding flesh on the sides and no cuts - it's gotta be a solid piece. I personally won't touch one that's been ...

Re: Distinguishing between aussie and indo gold hammer wall corals

Honestly, walls can be super tough to keep, I've seen it myself.

I've always thought the Indo Gold hammer walls were way more resilient than the Aussie ones - easier to keep, that is. Am I off the mark?

Looking for the low-maintenance option here - what's the easiest Gold hammer (not torch ...

Re: Keeping a jewel cichlid in a community

I concur with the assessment that this mix won't work in the long run. Jewel Cichlids have a notorious reputation for turning aggressive as they mature, and I fear your Opaline Gourami and RTBS may not be able to withstand their wrath.

I'm not overly familiar with the Ctenopoma, although I do know ...
