Re: new to salt water and considering a lionfish

it's not as complicated as people make it out to be. i managed to get my marine tank up and running in just two weeks. first off, i filled the tank halfway with water from my hose, added some dechlorinator and conditioner, and mixed in my salt. my tap water is already purified and dechlorinated, so ...

Re: Treating zoa pox and furan 2 in corals

I'm with you on not dosing meds in the main tank, I'm going to take out the zoa colonies I can manage. Sadly, some of the rocks are massive and the zoas are all over the bases of other corals, so it's a bit of a challenge. Hopefully it won't be a year-long process... these zoas have been thriving ...

Re: Treating zoa pox and furan 2 in corals

Does the package instructions say each packet treats 10 gallons of water? I'm just double-checking.

Sorry to hear Furan-2 didn't quite work out for your tank, Kyle. I'm curious - has anyone figured out how long Zoapox stays in the system after the infected polyp dies? What's the incubation period ...

Re: Treating zoa pox and furan 2 in corals

I'm about to start treating my zoa pox, and I had a question - when you say a "packet" of Furan-2, do you mean the entire package or just a single capsule? I've got Furanase, which comes in tablets, and I'm not sure if it's the same thing.

I also spoke with a vet who was pretty concerned about my ...

Re: a new beginning

Re: a new beginning

where can i get actual seaweed, not just the freeze dried stuff for feeding? i've got a few pet stores around me - petcos, petsmart, and one really good local shop but even they don't seem to carry much in the way of seaweed.

Re: a new beginning

ok so got the tank set up in the basement, leveled it out and threw in a powerhead and an auqualclear 500 - just for mixing, no media yet. still waiting for the real filter to show up, got my salt though. gonna start filling it up tomorrow morning and let it run with the powerhead, 500, and a ...

Re: a new beginning

id love a shark lol, but ill let my daughter pick what she wants, maybe some nemos and a few other fish she likes. ill probably toss in a moray for myself, they're pretty cool. i used a protein skimmer on my old 25gal setup, but that was mainly because of its small size. for the 125gal, is a protein ...

a new beginning

Havent had a salt tank in ages. Last one was a 25gal with a pair of clowns and a hawkfish - that was years ago. I've got some experience with sw fish but its been at least 9 years since I had a setup running. This time I'm converting my 125gal to sw, my daughter's been bugging me for some nemo fish ...
