Re: Apistogramma GH requirements
Thanks for the tips. My KH's around 3, pH stable at 6.8. Gonna grab an RO unit this weekend. How often do you guys water change with RO mixes?

Apistogramma GH requirements
I'm setting up a 20 gallon for Apistogramma cacatuoides and wanna get the GH right. My tap water's around 6 dGH, but I've heard they prefer softer. Should I cut it with RO or just roll with it? Tank's got sand, driftwood, and some Java fern. No tankmates yet.

Re: is a betta sorority a viable option?
Thanks for all the input, everyone. I'm glad to hear my LFS might be willing to take the fry at a younger age, but to be honest, breeding bettas is still a pretty distant dream for me. I was mainly curious about keeping a betta sorority in a 30 gallon tank because I think it would be a really cool ...

Re: is a betta sorority a viable option?
Honestly, if you're serious about breeding, I think it'd be smarter to keep the female in a separate smaller tank for spawning and use the 30 for raising the babies.
That's a great point, I didn't think that far ahead. I guess I was just thinking I'd figure it out when the time came, but that's ...

Re: is a betta sorority a viable option?
A sorority by definition is an all-female group, so I wouldn't even consider adding a male to the mix, especially in a relatively small tank like 30 gallons.
There have been successes and failures with betta sororities, and the reasons for the failures vary. Some people have unknowingly purchased ...

is a betta sorority a viable option?
Hey fellow fish enthusiasts, I'm excited to share my thoughts with you all. As you know, I'm a huge betta fan - I've got a male at home and joint custody of another. My dad, @BadgersSong, has a 30-gallon paludarium, but there's a chance he might upgrade to a 55-gallon setup in the future, freeing up ...

Re: Introducing seeds to a mature aquarium
I'm guessing it depends on the type of seeds you're using - what's the plant you're trying to grow? I've had my fair share of growing seeded plants outside the aquarium, and let me tell you, it's been a huge waste of time. Never attempted it inside the aquarium, though. Not sure if your substrate ...

Introducing seeds to a mature aquarium
Can this be done after a tank is filled or is it only allowed beforehand?

Re: Celebrating a special moment
I've also been thinking about sparkling gouramis - they're a great choice for my tank. With its size, I could have a nice-sized group. I'm drawn to mouth brooders, there's something about them that I find really fascinating. Betta picta is one that's really caught my attention, their markings are ...
