Re: Is this sand safe for my aquarium?
I've had great success with pool filter sand in my tanks, currently using it in six out of eight setups. The results have been fantastic, and I'm curious - does anyone know the typical grain size of this type of sand?

Can you post a pic of the sword? What's the species, btw?

Re: Iron is to low tech what co2 is to high tech.
I've been re-reading this thread over and over and still can't wrap my head around what you're getting at. Are you saying that using CO2 is similar to using iron in some way?

Re: is my betta's bloat worsening despite treatment?
I've had some experience with bloat in the past, but it was with rift cichlids, not bettas. I'm sharing this in case it might help. From what I've seen, Metronidazole and epsom salt can be effective in treating bloat. However, it's crucial to catch it early on. If the fish is no longer eating, I'm ...

Re: Scolymia coral dying, what's going wrong
I've had a similar experience with my Scoly - I had a minor setback when I forgot to turn on my heater after a water change, and the temp dropped to 72 degrees. Thankfully, my Scoly bounced back quickly once I got the temperature back up. I gave it some LPS food as a precaution and now it's doing ...

Re: Scolymia coral dying, what's going wrong
I think you've got a good shot at saving it, but it's worth considering the potential cost. If it's relatively inexpensive, I'd say go for it. Good luck.
Honestly, in Guatemala, all corals are super pricey - a healthy scoly can cost anywhere from $400 to $500 USD. This LFS is asking for $300 ...

Scolymia coral dying, what's going wrong
I stopped by my LFS and saw this scoly that's struggling. I'm thinking of trying to save it - is that feasible?

Re: Growing and caring for echinodorus bleheri bulbs
As far as I'm aware, Echinodorus plants don't grow from bulbs - they're actually rosulate plants. I've found a reliable source, Tropica, that confirms this.
Tropica's image of Echinodorus grisebachii 'Bleherae' shows the plant's typical growth pattern. You can check it out on their website - they ...

Re: seeking guidance as a new aquarist
I just set up a 15 gallon aquarium and I've got a few questions to get sorted.
Can I keep 2 clownfish, 1 yellow clown goby, and 2 hermit crabs in a real coral reef setup in a 15 gallon tank?
Should I go for juvenile clownfish or get them fully grown - I'm not sure which is better.
Are there ...
