Your tank is way overstocked for its size. I'm serious, it's not suitable for those fish. They won't make it a month without proper care.

Re: fish survival in prolonged absence of care
It really depends on the tank size and the tank mates. Generally, I'd say no, it's not a good idea to leave fish for a month with just an auto feeder and no water changes.

Re: Seeking advice from experienced frontosa keepers (includes photos)
Honestly, I'm not familiar with Frontosas. From what I know about juvenile fish in general, though, their bellies shouldn't be concave - it can be a sign of health issues or inadequate feeding, which ultimately affects their well-being.

Hi trackerboy, welcome to the forum. I'm happy to help you out with your kribs. To start, I'm curious, are you certain you have a male and female pair? It'd be great if you could share some photos of your kribs so we can confirm.

Re: A final query: seeking valuable advice
I think it's helpful to keep old topics together, especially when there are new replies, so they don't get lost in the list. If possible, it's best to start new topics for unrelated issues.

Re: A final query: seeking valuable advice
I'm not sure why you started a new topic when the old information would've been really helpful too. If you're certain it's velvet, then I think following the clear instructions on how to treat it would be the best course of action - I've heard it can be cured.

Re: finding a suitable tank mate and identifying shell dwellers
Your understanding of the relationship between potassium and pH is partially correct, but the overall concept is flawed. To clarify, potassium ions in your tank, regardless of their concentration, have no practical effect on pH. These ions are typically part of dissolved salts such as potassium ...

Re: finding a suitable tank mate and identifying shell dwellers
I'd like to clarify something: potassium doesn't have an impact on pH levels. Can you explain the mechanism behind your claim? In a typical freshwater tank, it's the carbonate concentration that buffers the pH, which is measured by KH. This is why only KH, not GH, affects the pH in your tank.

Re: information on anomalochromis thomasi
I've no experience with butterfly fish, but I can share my experience with A. thomasi. I'm currently keeping two in a densely planted 80x35x40 cm tank with a complex structure. Unfortunately, one is harassing the other as soon as they're in sight, which has led me to question whether I have a pair ...
