Re: seeking guidance on marine fish for beginners

Just got my tank and I'm literally buzzing to get started, think I'll be spending the rest of the day unpacking and setting it up. Can't wait to share my progress and I'm sure I'll be back with loads of questions - bear with me, I'm a total newbie to this marine aquarium lark.

Re: seeking guidance on marine fish for beginners

Thanks for all your help, I must say it's reassuring to hear from people with experience in this area. I'm glad I can finally make a start and see how things go. I've got a better understanding now, so I'll just get on with it and not rush out to buy stress coat.

My tank is 58 litres, which I ...

Re: seeking guidance on marine fish for beginners

Thanks heaps for all your help, I really appreciate it. My tank's arriving tomorrow morning and I'm getting super stoked, but I want to make sure I do everything right from the start. I'm guessing I'll be asking a heap of questions over the next few days.

Once the tank's all set up, I was thinking ...

Re: seeking guidance on marine fish for beginners

Hi coltin,

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. Your input has been a massive help, especially with the live rock - I was thinking of collecting from the beach but I'm a bit worried about potential contamination, so I'll try to find a local shop that sells ...

seeking guidance on marine fish for beginners

I've just ordered the Orca Lynxo Reef Aquarium TL450 and I'd really appreciate any tips you guys can offer. I've had experience with Tropical Fish before, but I'm new to Marine Fish and I'm excited to give it a go. For my first fish, I'm considering a Royal Gramma - I saw one today and it's stunning ...

Re: Elegance coral is dying off

I'm with you on the frustration factor, sounds like you're dealing with a bit of a mystery here. Any sudden changes to tank parameters would be my first guess - can you post those? I've always thought of my corals as real-time indicators of my tank chemistry, they never lie. If everything else in ...

Re: Hammer corals making a comeback

Just had a similar thing happen to me, lost a hammer to a salinity spike and I'm definitely leaving the skeleton in there now. Got back from a 3-day trip and my tank was down 2 gallons, no top-off with RODI... went from 1.026 to 1.038 in my small 20g, not good. Guess I'll take a cue from you, not ...

Re: Hammer corals making a comeback

Got any pics of this? I'm curious now. Had a similar experience with an SPS skeleton on some live rock I brought back from the Gulf of Mexico when I lived in Florida. Took a month or two in my tank for me to notice some polyps starting to grow from the skeleton, but I've never seen it happen with a ...

Re: Understanding coral biology

Your second and flintix9t pics are actually single animal corals, whereas the others appear to be colonies, and you're correct in assuming each 'flower' is a single animal within the colony.

A general Google search for info on coral colonies should yield plenty of useful information.

I'm always ...
