Re: Favia coral care and information

I've been worried about overfeeding, but I think I may have been underfeeding instead. I'll wait a couple of days and keep an eye on the war coral, if it continues to recede I'll dip it in Lugol's solution again.

I need to get a canister for the carbon, but for now I can just add some to my filter ...

Re: Favia coral care and information

I haven't ran carbon yet, that was my next move. I'll give it a shot and see if it clears up the cloudy water.

As for feeding, I try to keep it moderate - just enough for the clownfish to polish off within a minute or two. The two cleaner shrimp I have seem to appreciate the leftovers, they snag a ...

Re: Favia coral care and information

I've had this tank running since August 2014, and I've never had a major algae or diatom issue. My stock consists of 2 clownfish and 7 corals now. I recently added 6 new corals about 10 days ago, including the war coral, ORA purple stylophora, reverse superman montipora, rainbow montipora, brain ...

Re: Favia coral care and information

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. I'm thinking I may have it in too much water flow, so I'm gonna move it away from one of the Tunze pumps. Had it for about a week now, probably just adjusting to my tank.

Favia coral care and information

I recently picked up this coral from a local reef show and I'm thinking it might be a type of favia - can anyone with more experience confirm if I'm correct? I've got it positioned high up in my 90-gallon display tank, under LED lights that run for 10 hours a day, set at around 30-50% intensity. The ...

Re: new ideas for the addition

Looks like he's munching on the micro algae, lovely little bloke isn't he? Only grows to a few inches, reminds me of a Japanese design, almost too perfect to be natural.

Re: new ideas for the addition

I think it was zenox44 who wrote about this, the dwarf angel being an option because it won't nip at coflakes if fed enough. People often don't feed them correctly and that's why they're considered reef incompatible. We try to cut back on food to keep organics like nitrates and phosphates down, but ...

Re: is my common clown actually braindead?

It's a typical stress response to the move. Swimming up and down the glass is a classic behaviour of stressed fish - they're trying to escape. Keep a relaxed atmosphere and they'll settle down quickly, especially when they associate you with food. They'll soon be up at the glass every time they see ...

Re: collecting hermit crabs from the beach

I'm no expert on UK wildlife, but based on my own country's coastal fauna, I'd expect those hermit crabs to be quite large and carnivorous. They're likely adapted to temperate conditions, so I'm not sure they'd thrive in tropical temperatures long-term.

Does that include seaweed? I was thinking ...

Re: about the clown fish

Sounds like you've got a solid list there. Good luck with the new setup, hope it all goes smoothly.
