Yeah, consistency's key. My plants took a while to adjust when I changed from 8 to 6 hours, but they're doing better now. Less algae too.

Same here, but I do 6 hours. Less light means less chance of algae, and my plants are still growing slow but steady.

I came across something the other day saying cichlids, and a lot of fish actually, rub against the sand and it's pretty normal, more of a habit thing. My malawis tank's parameters are all good, fish are healthy, no signs of damage or anything, and most of them do this.

My water's harder than a calculus exam, and Amazon Swords are doing alright. They're not as fussy as people say if you toss in some root tabs. Mine's got leaves bigger than my hand.
