Re: Pairing kribs

I think it'd be better if you kept all your updates in one thread, makes it easier for us to follow along and we can see pics if they do end up breeding. You mentioned in your first post it was almost 2 weeks, now you're saying exactly 2 weeks, so I'm guessing you'd only had them a week back then ...

Re: Caring for week-old fry

Week-old fry need live food to thrive. Try baby brine shrimp or microworms. Powdered food often doesn't cut it for them. Also, keep the lights dim to reduce stress. What's your water change routine? Frequent small changes help maintain stability.

I disagree. Powdered food can work if it's high ...

Re: Kribs have spawned.

Congrats are in order mate. It's a tough one, but if you want to give those little kribs the best shot at survival, I'd say pull the other fish out. The cardinals and cories, they'll only cause trouble for the fry.

If you're not fussed about the numbers, then just leave everything as is and let ...

Re: How long did your tank take to thrive?

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm running a Fluval 307 canister, dosing Thrive twice a week. Plants are mostly Anubias, Java Fern, and some stem plants that keep melting. Lighting is 7 hours straight, no siesta. Maybe I'll tweak that.

How long did your tank take to thrive?

I've been struggling with my planted tank for months now. The plants just aren't thriving like I expected. How long did it take for your tank to really start thriving? I'm using a 20-gallon with Fluval Stratum, CO2 injection, and a Nicrew light. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate.

Re: Observations of kribensis mating behavior

Yeah, it's all trial and error with these things. You gonna give it another shot and get another pair? I've got a pair that's just starting to show some promise, she's been working on the coconut cave and it's actually looking pretty neat - there's a little pile of sand outside the entrance, so ...

Re: Observations of kribensis mating behavior

They seem female to me, the round pink bellies are a giveaway. Males wouldn't have that, and usually you can tell by the dorsal fin too, but it's hard to see in these photos.

I'm not convinced the lip locking is a mating thing, to me it looks more like aggression.

Re: care and feeding of the red kribensis

You might want to try reaching out to Peter Clarke on this forum, he may be able to help you source the super red kribensis you're looking for. He's currently selling some beautiful pelvicachromis in the classifieds, I came across his post recently. The username is something with Peter Clarke in it ...
