I'm curious, if you were to separate the smaller discus from the rest, would the aggressive behavior still occur among the remaining six. I'd definitely recommend getting another clown loach, or even two. They seem to thrive when they have some buddies to hang out with, and since your remaining loach is already showing signs of loneliness, I think it would really help to have some new friends for him.
