Thanks for the input, everyone. I'm running a canister filter right now, but I'm thinking of switching to a sump with a refugium section. Vimster, reverse light cycle sounds smart—I'll try that.

Refugiums can be a game-changer, especially if you're struggling with nitrates. I run one with Chaeto in my 120-gallon, and it keeps my levels at 5 ppm or lower. What's your lighting schedule like for the fuge?

Can't help with the brown jelly issue, but glad to see another reefer with a similar tank size - I've got a 37 gallon tank as well.
