Re: my 420-liter and 110-gallon aquarium

I appreciate the feedback, it means a lot. I was going for a darker vibe in the tank, it seems to be working well for my Frontosa, he's really thriving with the new caves.

Thanks for the kind words, sorathor - it's great to finally see my vision come to life in the tank.

He's indeed a beauty. Any thoughts on the tank? Improvements?

That's my boy. He's a real stunner. I'd love to find some more like him, they'd make a great addition to the tank.

I think you might be on to something there, mate. He does bear a resemblance to a rummynose tetra, but with that cichlid shape. The colours are pretty much inverted, too. Tek oot indeed, I'm loving the observation.

Re: my 420-liter and 110-gallon aquarium

I did a quick search just now and the images I found don't quite match my guy - his red colouring actually extends to his fins, not just his body. I've always thought he might be a peacock of some sort, personally. Found an old pic of him from before he coloured up so beautifully.

Re: my 420-liter and 110-gallon aquarium

I've been told that middle fish with the blue face is a Kandango, but I'm still unsure. I'd love it if someone could confirm the ID for me. This guy was rescued from a pretty rough fish shop, and since being in my tank for six months, he's really started to show off his colours.

As for the tank ...

my 420-liter and 110-gallon aquarium

Just set up my Mixed Cichlid tank after a recent rescape.
I'm not a purist when it comes to mixing lakes - I know they have different water preferences, but all my fish are locally bred in Western Australia, so they're all used to the same water conditions. No wild catches here.
My fish are ...

Re: keeping malawi cichlids with aquatic plants

I've had some luck with Java fern alternatives that fit in pots, such as Anubias. They're pretty resilient and seem to do alright in my tank.

+1 Yeah I'm pretty sure that's a Juvi Tropheus bushboy, would be awesome if they kept those spots as adults

Re: do fish stay in or out during rescape?

I've had a run-in with my Johanni today - it nipped me while I was shifting some coflake. Ouch, it actually stung. Turns out, they've got some decent chompers.

I usually do my rescaping with the fish still in the tank, especially the cichlids. They're pretty quick to get out of the way, like ...
