Re: Building a thriving 5-gallon shrimp tank

I just set up a 5 gallon tank and I'm planning on making it an all-moss setup for my shrimp. I've got susswassertag and java moss in there. How long do you think it'll take for the moss to grow out and look beautiful and lush, like my inspiration photo?

Requirements for subwassertang are pretty ...

Re: Building a thriving 5-gallon shrimp tank

I'm a big fan of susswassertang, personally. I got a small amount with a shrimp shipment and initially, it was slow going, but now it's picking up pace. Not as fast as some mosses, but I find it way easier to manage - I've got it in three tanks now. Took around 4 weeks to really take off.

Re: Do you mix your floaters?

I've had experience with mixing Red Root Floaters and Lettuce. To prevent overcrowding, I made sure to thin them out. If I hadn't, I think the Lettuce would've outcompeted the Red Root, possibly suffocating it.

Re: choosing peaceful nano fish to keep with platys

I've also got a setup with a dwarf gourami, a bristlenose pleco, and some ember tetras alongside my platys - it's in a separate tank, but I've found it's working out pretty well.

Re: easy to grow aquarium plants for beginners

I'd also recommend adding some Asian water fern, Christmas moss, and subwassertang to your list. These plants are pretty low maintenance and can add some nice texture to your tank. Asian water fern can be tied to driftwood or rocks, and Christmas moss can be attached to pretty much anything ...

Re: Causes of fin rot in aquarium fish

When it comes to treating fin issues in bettas, I'd advise against using Melafix. Instead, opt for Bettafix - it's a safer alternative that's specifically designed for bettas, with the harmful components removed.

Re: Choosing the right snail for a planted tank

Will apple snails not eat plants? I'm wondering why they were banned over here for a while. They do eat plants, but not too much. I think they're banned in some places 'cause they can be invasive.

Re: Dealing with exposed tree roots

I've had good luck with trimming the roots on my anubias and Java fern. Their roots are mainly for anchoring, so it doesn't seem to hurt them.

Re: Amano shrimp riding on the back of larger amano shrimp

Just got my new snowball amano shrimp and they're definitely the largest in the tank. I was observing them tonight and I saw a smaller amano riding on the back of one of the bigger ones. Also, there were a few amanos, like 3 or 4, just hovering around this big snowball shrimp. Anyone have an idea ...
