Re: Floating plants: advice and guidance needed
I think I might have a solution to your problem, geeky. Instead of trying to contain the plants with tubing, why not try putting the tubing around the filter output itself? This way, you can control the flow of water and direct it in a way that doesn't push the plants to one end of the tank. It's ...

Re: A softer spot for snails
Nerites seem to do alright on small plant leaves, I've not really noticed any damage. Occasionally I see some red root floaters with bits missing, but I'm not sure what's responsible.

Re: A softer spot for snails
I prefer sticking with nerites and shrimp, it's just easier that way. No need to stress about snail populations getting out of control.

Re: Building a thriving 5-gallon shrimp tank
I just set up a 5 gallon tank and I'm planning on making it an all-moss setup for my shrimp. I've got susswassertag and java moss in there. How long do you think it'll take for the moss to grow out and look beautiful and lush, like my inspiration photo?
Requirements for subwassertang are pretty ...

Re: Building a thriving 5-gallon shrimp tank
I'm a big fan of susswassertang, personally. I got a small amount with a shrimp shipment and initially, it was slow going, but now it's picking up pace. Not as fast as some mosses, but I find it way easier to manage - I've got it in three tanks now. Took around 4 weeks to really take off.

Re: Do you mix your floaters?
I've had experience with mixing Red Root Floaters and Lettuce. To prevent overcrowding, I made sure to thin them out. If I hadn't, I think the Lettuce would've outcompeted the Red Root, possibly suffocating it.

Re: choosing peaceful nano fish to keep with platys
I've also got a setup with a dwarf gourami, a bristlenose pleco, and some ember tetras alongside my platys - it's in a separate tank, but I've found it's working out pretty well.

Re: easy to grow aquarium plants for beginners
I'd also recommend adding some Asian water fern, Christmas moss, and subwassertang to your list. These plants are pretty low maintenance and can add some nice texture to your tank. Asian water fern can be tied to driftwood or rocks, and Christmas moss can be attached to pretty much anything ...
