Re: Budget-friendly Indian almond leaf alternatives
Honestly, I've used tea bags in a pinch. Just plain black tea, no flavors. Steep one in tank water first, then toss it in. Weird vibe, but my betta didn't mind. Wouldn't do it long-term, though.

Re: Discus tank odor problem solver
Thanks, both! Substrate is about 8 months old. Nitrates are around 20 ppm, ammonia and nitrites are zero. I'll try stirring the sand and maybe grab a powerhead. Gonna skip beef heart for a bit too.

Discus tank odor problem solver
My tank's been smelling kinda funky lately, like rotten eggs. It's a 75-gallon with 6 Discus, all around 4 inches. I do 50% water changes twice a week, use a Fluval FX6, and feed them frozen beef heart and flakes. Tankmates are 10 neon tetras and a bristlenose pleco. Substrate is sand, and I've got ...

is co2 safe for discus tanks?
Thinking about adding co2 to my 75 gallon discus tank. They're all around 4 inches, been in there for about 6 months. Tankmates are 10 cardinal tetras and a pair of rams. Running a Fluval 407 canister, sand substrate, and some Amazon swords. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, nitrate ...

Re: discus tank substrate pros cons
Anyone tried bare bottom? I'm lazy with maintenance, and my 55-gallon's got just a sponge filter. Fish seem fine, but it's kinda ugly. Temp's steady at 83°F, feed them frozen bloodworms twice a day.

Re: Discus tank flow for happy fish
Discus are such divas about flow! My fix was adding tall plants like vals to break the current. They love weaving through the leaves. Also, try turning off the filter during feeding—mine eat way calmer now.

Re: can i keep goniopora with sps?
Thanks for the heads-up, everyone. Gonna skip the Gonis for now and maybe try a Cyphastrea instead. Less drama.

can i keep goniopora with sps?
I've got a mixed reef tank with some SPS and was thinking of adding a Goniopora. Heard they can be tricky, but will they mess with my Acros and Montis? Tank's a 75g, running dual AI Primes, params stable at 8.2 dKH, 420 Ca, 1350 Mg.

Re: Discus tank on a tight budget
Plants are a game-changer. They soak up nitrates, so you can stretch water changes a bit. Java fern and anubias are bulletproof, no fancy lights needed. Just tie to driftwood with fishing line. My Discus love perching on the leaves.
