Re: What's Your Favorite Plant Combo?

Anyone tried Red Root Floater? It's like Duckweed's cooler cousin. Adds a pop of color and doesn't go full invasive mode.

Re: discus tank heater placement tips

Mine are on the same side, but now I'm rethinking it. They're near the filter, but the other side of the tank feels cooler. Maybe I'll move one. What heater brand you using?

Second this! My Crypts melted at first but bounced back hard. Now they're my tank's MVP.

Re: discus tank setup for shy fish

Sounds like your setup's solid, but they might need more cover. Try adding taller plants like Amazon swords or floating plants to block light. Also, keep the room dim for a few days. Mine took about two weeks to stop being sketchy.

Yep, floating plants worked for me too. I used frogbit and they ...

Re: why does my discus refuse to eat?

New filter could've messed with the biofilter, even if params look fine. Did you transfer media from the old one? Also, 86°F is high, might stress them if they're not used to it. Try dropping to 84°F. What's your water change routine? If it's less than 30% weekly, that could be part of it.

+1 on giving them a name, I swear it works, every time I've named one of my pieces, it's colored right up, like magic.

Re: How long have you been without power?

I've only had a few power outages, but a friend in Seattle had a week-long outage and lost all his Discus - that was a wake-up call for me. I decided to invest in a Tripp Lite Power Inverter, 3000 watts, and two Optima Yellow top gel batteries. This setup ...
