Re: preparing for a new journey
Neolamprologus is actually the genus of those beautiful shell dwellers you were mentioning, so it seems like we're on the same page with that.

Re: preparing for a new journey
I'm torn between Haps and Peacocks, to be honest. A Tanganyikan setup could work beautifully, though. Neolamprologus are great options for a smaller tank, and a big colony of shell dwellers would be stunning.

Re: Help a novice grow their plant: what am i doing wrong?
I'd suggest adding some Excel to give your Java fern a bit of a boost. From what I've learned, it's pretty normal for them to drop a few leaves before new ones start growing - it's just part of their cycle. I've also been told they're incredibly hardy, so don't worry too much if they look a bit ...

I'd trust frapadiddle, he knows his cichlids. Just remember, don't overcrowd your tank, but a bit of overstocking is okay, gives them some room to swim.

Re: Can someone identify this fish for me
It's likely one of those two, paratropheus or pseudotropheus. Hopefully Willis will catch this and chime in
Re: about fry
I've heard of something similar happening in the wild. Apparently, certain catfish will lay their eggs in the clutch of a cichlid, and the cichlid will end up taking care of them. Not exactly what's going on here, but it shows that fish can sometimes adopt others' young. In your case, it seems like ...

Angels in 8.2, are you kidding me?
This is a disaster waiting to happen, trust me I've been there. Four years ago I made the same mistake, and let me tell you, it was a nightmare for both the angels and the cichlids. They just aren't meant to be together.

Re: Keeping angels with cichlids?
I'll stick with the mixed Malawi cichlids, just them, no other tankmates.
