Re: Is my betta sick?
I've had him for a while now. What I'm really trying to figure out is what's going on with his health. You asked about the pH, GH, and KH - I can check those for you. To be honest, I haven't checked them recently but I can give you the readings from my last water test.
I've been wondering the ...

Re: finding better quality betta fish
I've been checking out KeepFishKeeping.com - it's run by the KG Tropicals team, you know, the ones with the YouTube channel. Lisa, the owner, is super into bettas, so they've got a whole room dedicated to them, and she sells them too. They've got photos and videos of each fish on the site, which is ...

Re: Plants for a Peaceful Community Tank
Dwarf Sagittaria is another good one. It carpets slow but stays short, perfect for a peaceful tank. Mine's been thriving with just root tabs and no CO2. The corys love it.

Re: Is ammonia a concern in a new tank?
I'm still trying to figure out the source of the ammonia, and I just thought of something else. I've got that white biofilm slimy stuff growing on my driftwood - you know, the normal stuff that shows up when you first put it in the tank. It's probably going to go away on its own in a couple of weeks ...

Re: Is ammonia a concern in a new tank?
There are a couple of possibilities for the ammonia source in your tank.
First, consider your substrate - is it a plant-specific substrate or just regular sand/gravel? Some plant substrates are known to leach ammonia, which could be contributing to the readings you're seeing.
Another potential ...

Re: Is ammonia a concern in a new tank?
I'm not too worried about the ammonia, I'm sure it'll sort itself out in time. I've still got a month or so before I can get fish, and I've got established filter media to help when I'm ready. So, all good. It's just a fun learning experience for me. I'm just not seeing a lot of rotting plant matter ...

Is ammonia a concern in a new tank?
I'm curious about something and I hope I'm not missing something obvious. I set up my new tank on Saturday, no fish in it yet, and I've been doing daily 50% water changes. I'm using Easy Green for the epiphyte plants and Aquarium Co-op root tabs for the stem plants. Today I decided to test my water ...

Re: help me choose a name for my new betta
My pineapple betta's on the way and I'm stumped for names. Photo's attached, check it out. So far, I've got Sponge Bob and Loki (yeah, I know, not exactly Loki-esque, but we're huge Marvel fans here). Any name suggestions from fellow betta enthusiasts?
I think he's got a bit of a flashy vibe ...
