That's a good plan. The upgrade will give your betta more space and make maintenance a bit easier in the long run.RiverOtter_7 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 2:05 pm I've got a 5-gallon with a betta and a snail. Works fine, but I do weekly water changes to keep things clean. Might upgrade to a 10-gallon soon though.

Re: how to choose the right Betta tank size
A 5-gallon tank is the bare minimum for a betta, but if you can go bigger, do it. They thrive in larger spaces, and a 10-gallon gives them more room to explore. Just make sure it's heated and filtered.

Re: Adding harlequins to community tank?
Just to add, harlequins are also great for planted tanks. They don't mess with plants and their colors pop against green foliage. What's your substrate?

Re: Adding harlequins to community tank?
I've got a 30 gallon community tank with neon tetras, corydoras, and a betta. Thinking of adding harlequin rasboras but worried about aggression. Anyone have experience mixing them?
Harlequins are peaceful and should work well in your setup. Just make sure the betta isn't territorial. How's ...

Re: keeping kribensis cichlids
I've had experience with Kribs in the past and now I keep Keyholes, I gotta say Keyholes are definitely the more laid back of the two, James.

Lovely addition to the tank, kribensis are a stunning species. I've had the pleasure of keeping them in the past and can appreciate their vibrant colours.

Re: Growing and overcoming barriers
Thanks willie32, appreciate the suggestions - I'll definitely consider the whiptail catfish or nerite snails, even if they don't fit my South American theme. If they do the job, I can always remove them later, so it's worth a shot.

Re: Growing and overcoming barriers
I've come across this growth before, and more often than not, the fish will just graze on it. Someone once mentioned it might be the last bits of sap from the wood, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Anyway, nice to see you around again reefknight, been a while since some of the old crew ...

Re: Growing and overcoming barriers
Thanks for the input - I've been doing some more research and it seems I've got a type of algae on my hands. It's this soft, greyish-brown stuff that's got a bit of a hairy texture to it.

Growing and overcoming barriers
Hi all,
Just a quick intro to my tank setup - it's a 50 gallon that's been up and running for about 3 months, with fish in for 4 weeks. I did a full fishless cycle before adding any fish, just to be safe.
Tank specs are as follows: temp is set to 25c, pH is around 6.6, and I've got the following ...
