Re: malawi national id

Yeah, they're peacocks for sure. Had a similar experience with mine in a 180L tank, they started breeding after about 3 months. Got 'em as adults, so I reckon it's just a matter of maintaining good water quality and they'll get to it. Just keep an eye out for that double chin, that's the sign. My ...

Re: Is a malawi stocking suitable for a 3ft tank?

on the heater issue it's not as simple as that. the larger heater comes on less often, which theoretically means it'll last longer and use less electricity. if it does fail, it's likely to just stop working altogether, causing the tank temp to drop, rather than staying on full blast and cooking the ...

Re: my african cichlid aquarium setup

I think 15 is fine depending on the species and their adult size. Overstocking a malawi tank is actually recommended to reduce aggression but 15 doesn't seem excessive to me.

Re: labradors with a yellow coat

My tank's 42x15x18, no way near big enough. I'm gettin a bigger one but I reckon I'll keep 'em separate now. 8-10 inch fish next to labs would look a bit daft. I just liked the colours, thought they'd go well together. I like both fish. Was thinkin about postin pics but then I'd have to learn that ...

labradors with a yellow coat

hello

i'm proper keen on gettin yellow labs n blue turbos cichlids, but would they chill together alright? not exactly an expert on either, gotta be honest. got peacocks at the mo with some other random fish that i got no idea what they are, n no pics to upload, so can't even get 'em id'd. need ...

Re: setting up a malawi rock

Cheers, thanks for the info. The other fish seem to get on alright with the peacocks, but I'm not entirely sure what they are as I got them off someone who had no idea. I'll have a look for some Texas Holey Rock, sounds like the way to go. Thanks again.

setting up a malawi rock

i was thinking of getting some live rock online, but the guy said i gotta boil it first to kill all the stuff on it. seems weird though - if dead live rock is fine to use, doesn't that mean most types of rock could work? i really want to get a bunch of caves set up before i swap out my peacocks for ...

Re: Experiencing a headache in malawi

the 5ft one is just the glass, so its a fair bit cheaper. i'll save myself 200 quid and build a stand for it instead. the 4ft one has the stand and all that jazz, but i don't mind DIY. my main concern is, is 18x18 too small for the width and height? i'm thinking of using a 23x11x16 (LWD) tank as a ...

Re: Experiencing a headache in malawi

Cheers for askin, kalevi. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure on the dimensions, just that it's 4 foot long. I'm thinkin' of either gettin' the 4ft or maybe upgradin' to a 5ft by 1.5ft by 1.5ft, depends which one's the better option, really.

Experiencing a headache in malawi

I'm working on saving up for a 72 gallon tank and I'm really excited about the possibility of keeping some malawis in it. I've been doing some research and I'm having a hard time deciding on a stock list. Ideally, I'd love to have acei, saulosi, yellow labs, cobalt blues, and ndumbi red tops all in ...
