Re: Betta exhibiting rapid breathing and pacing

I'd highly recommend getting an API freshwater master test kit if you don't already have one - it's a lifesaver for your fish. If you do have one, go ahead and do a water test to see if there's anything out of whack that could be stressing Harry out.

Re: How much food for your fish?

Yo, sly_lash, I feel you. I used to dump food in like it was a buffet, lol. Now I stick to the 2-minute rule. My fish are chill, and the water stays clean. Also, skip a day once a week, it's good for their digestion.

That's solid advice. I've noticed my fish are more active when I skip a day ...

Re: Help for betta with fin tear and brown spots on decorations

I'm pretty sure everything is fine. I've seen those brown spots before, and I'm guessing it's just algae. I've got the same issue with my betta's silk plants, and they're always getting brown spots. When you first brought your fin_tank home, did the tear on her fin already exist?

Re: Help for betta with fin tear and brown spots on decorations

That fin is just a separate one, it's not actually a tear. It won't ever "heal" because it's a normal part of her finnage. If it did somehow "heal", that would actually be a cause for concern.

Re: finding pretty bettas at petco

I feel terrible for those bettas, they're such stunning creatures and yet they're stuck in those tiny cups. I was taken aback when I saw koi bettas at Petco - it was quite a surprise.

I'm curious, what's the breed of the second betta in the pics? It's really pretty.

I think that second one ...

Re: finding pretty bettas at petco

Why the surprise, really. Betta fish, especially the fancy ones like canvas, multicoloured, and those trendy koi types, are super popular. They sell millions every year, and sadly, millions don't make it.

i'm used to seeing single colored veiltails or crowntails at my petco, so the koi bettas ...

Re: finding pretty bettas at petco

It's just as bad passing the animal section in general - all those poor creatures stuck in small spaces.

I've had the privilege of visiting Jason's place, and let me tell you, his basement setup is absolutely incredible. He's truly the master of his craft, and it shows in the way he cares for his corals.
