Re: helping a betta in distress

I'm basically telling you, you're heading down a slippery slope. I've got MTS, I speak fluent fish, and honestly, I'm not sure I'm sane anymore. I'm trying to warn you, don't end up like me, I'm a fish-obsessed mess.

Re: help with my betta fish issue

To clear things up, we actually did get a heater when we first got Pence, but we just upgraded to an adjustable one when he got ich. That's all.

Re: help with my betta fish issue

Yes, both tanks have a filter. When Pence had ich, we got a heater to keep the temperature up. I think it might have been too powerful for his small tank. The thermometer said it was 78 degrees, which is what I like to keep it at - either 78 or 80 degrees. We moved the heater to the 10 gallon now ...

Re: help with my betta fish issue

I've been thinking of cutting back on his food anyway, since he hasn't been coming up for it much lately. I've actually already started feeding him less.

The tetras are now in the ten gallon tank. Last night, my mom moved Pence there too when I wasn't home. To be honest, the water quality in the 5 ...

Re: help with my betta fish issue

I'm considering trying this, but I'm really worried about stressing Pence out and losing him. His scales are sticking out a bit, and he has clamped fins, which is why I think he might have dropsy.

The bloating is also a concern, and I'm hoping this will help. I've read through the instructions ...

Re: help with my betta fish issue

No pineconing, but his abdomen does look a bit bloated. He's in a 5.5 gal tank with 5 neon tetras - I know some people say it's too small for them, but they've been doing great and getting along fine for months. I try to do water changes every week or two. Here's a picture - sorry it's not the best ...

help with my betta fish issue

It's been a while since I last posted, my previous thread was about Pence, my fin tank, who somehow miraculously recovered from Ich.

Although it's been a while, I'm now noticing something similar happening. Pence spends most of his time at the bottom of the tank and appears to have trouble ...

Re: cloudy water and inactive fish?

Glad to hear the water's clearing up a bit and your betta's perking up. So, what's your water change schedule like - how often do you do it and how much do you change each time?

Re: cloudy water and inactive fish?

I'm pretty concerned about your betta's health, sandly. His fins are clamped and he appears a bit bloated - that's not normal. Can you tell me what kind of food you're feeding him? What are your current water parameters like? And do you have a filter in the tank?

As for the cloudy water, I think a ...
