Please don't do this. They'll get damaged or stress your fish. Stick to the tried-and-true methods.

Re: Best way to mount coral frags

Super glue gel works best for me, but you gotta make sure the frag plug or rock is bone dry before applying. I also use a tiny bit of epoxy putty to secure the base if it's a bigger piece. What's your water flow like? Too much can knock them loose.

Re: creating a thriving shell-dweller colony in a 29-gallon aquarium

Glad you got more shells, they'll definitely be put to good use. These shellies are a feisty bunch, especially the males - they're the dominant ones and can get pretty aggressive. Lip locking and fighting's not uncommon among them, and if things escalate, you might need to separate one of the males ...

Re: creating a thriving shell-dweller colony in a 29-gallon aquarium

I paid around $17 a piece for my shellies, give or take a few bucks. I remember they weren't cheap, but totally worth it.

If you're looking to get some action going in the top of the water column, I'd suggest adding some vertical hardscapes. You know, like tall porous rocks. These guys love their ...

Re: creating a thriving shell-dweller colony in a 29-gallon aquarium

Hey another shell dweller tank. I've been keeping 6 of these Neolamprologus multifasciatus in a 10 gallon, and it's been a blast watching them thrive. One thing I've learned is that they need a lot of shells - I'd recommend at least 4 or 5 per fish. They really utilize them, and it's amazing to see ...

Re: Is my halfmoon betta male a good representation of the breed?

He looks great, fins and coloring are nice. No obvious signs of ich or columnaris that I can see. I've had experience with bettas in community tanks, and one thing I've found is that when the betta is the first fish in the tank, new additions can be seen as invaders. I've had more success when the ...

Re: Can i keep shrimp with my betta fish

I was mistaken about ghost shrimp being fragile. It's more about the conditions they're kept in at pet stores - overcrowded and poor. I've bought ghost shrimp multiple times and never had a 100% survival rate. I always buy extra, expecting some to not make it. In fact, I've had one die before I even ...

Re: Can i keep shrimp with my betta fish

I've had multiple people advise against keeping shrimp and betta fish together, but I've had a different experience. I've successfully kept betta fish with ghost shrimp in three tanks without any issues. I think it's possible that betta fish get a bad rap when it comes to shrimp, and people assume ...

Re: Is my betta rejecting bloodworms as a food source

Freeze dried blood worms just aren't the same as frozen ones, they lack the nutrients and flavor your betta craves. It's like you're offering a snack when it's really craving a feast. I mean, who wants dried out jerky when you could have a juicy burger, right?

Re: choosing a compatible top dweller for my shell dwellers

Thanks coltin, I just did some research on those species and I think I'd need a 20 gallon high to keep them with my shellies. Since I already have the 20 gallon long, I guess I'll just stick with a species-only tank. I have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed - I was really looking forward to keeping ...
