Re: discussing our favorite books

I've taken note of this conversation for future reference. There's something to be said about growing up in the 80s, surrounded by books that fueled my passions. The internet has its perks – instant access to information and all – but it can also be misleading. I've started building my fish-keeping ...

Re: Cleaning new aquarium substrate pebbles

Since your bag still seems intact, I'm starting to think those black pebbles might not be the best choice for your shrimp tank. I mean, who needs a glowing floor, right? The shrimp definitely won't appreciate eating any coating that might be on them, and who knows what could leach into the water ...

Re: Choosing the right tank size for your aquarium

Honestly, I don't see an issue even if you decide to put all your fish in the 20g. The two main factors that usually cause problems are overfeeding and neglecting maintenance and water changes. As long as you've got those under control, you should be fine.

Re: buying fish that's been shipped: what to expect

I've had some great experiences with shipped fish, despite my initial reservations. I've ordered from Freshwaterexotics twice, and both times the packaging was top-notch - all my fish arrived within 20 hours, and above 70 degrees. The owner was really communicative, and I appreciated that. However ...

Re: A mysterious artificial lake bottom on a tv commercial

I don't think it's entirely fabricated, but rather, it's probably been tweaked to pique interest – that's how things are presented nowadays. Advanced video editing tools are readily available and user-friendly, making it easy to enhance visuals.

I've had the chance to fish in numerous lakes in the ...

Re: Finding compatible discus tank mates

Your tank looks great, I'm curious - what plants do you have in there? I'm guessing it's a low-tech setup, no CO2? I've been thinking of adding some plants to my pleco tanks, but I'm not sure what can handle the heat.
