I've used 'em for years with no issues. Just roll 'em during water changes to keep 'em clean. Bettas seem to dig 'em.

Yep, anubias is chill. I've also had luck with hornwort—it grows like crazy and gives your fish places to hide. Just gotta trim it weekly or it'll take over. My tank's got a sponge filter too, and the betta's cool with it.

pH swings that large can definitely stress SPS. First, check your alkalinity levels—they should be stable around 8–9 dKH. Also, are you dosing anything? A calcium reactor or kalkwasser can help stabilize pH if set up correctly.
