Re: Can these fish coexist peacefully?
I'm curious, what's the tank size looking like. I think the labs will actually get along just fine with the peacocks, they're one of the more peaceful Mbuna. I've had them mixed with my haps and peacocks for years, no issues, until I decided to switch things up. My main concern would be the Jake and ...

Re: need help with identification
I think the orange/peach ones are probably Red Zebras. The one with orange and black spots looks like an OB Zebra to me. The yellow one with horizontal black stripes seems to be a Melanochromis auratus. As for the solid yellow fish, it might be a Lab/Zebra mix. If you can get better pics of the ...

Re: feedback on my 40-gallon african tank
What's the tank's footprint. 40 gallons can be limiting for most African cichlids. A small breeding group of labs or ps. saulosi might work. A single breeding pair of jewels could work with danios, but it's a stretch.

Re: keeping mbunas and peacocks
I've had no experience with red zebras personally, but I've heard mixed reviews - some folks say they can be pretty feisty. Given that most of your fish have grown up together, it seems like they've established a pecking order and are coexisting peacefully. However, introducing new fish to the tank ...

Re: keeping mbunas and peacocks
A lot of these fish might still be young, but once they hit breeding age, it's likely things'll escalate quickly, especially in a 4ft tank - it's almost a guarantee that tensions will rise and conflicts will intensify.

Re: keeping mbunas and peacocks
Considering your tank's inhabitants, the Yellow Labs are the only mbuna that might get along with peacocks and haps. The Kenyi, Auratus, and Bumblebee are notoriously aggressive mbuna, often difficult to keep with other mbuna. As for the Red Tail Shark, it's a gamble – many have tried, but few have ...

Re: keeping mbunas and peacocks
What's the tank size you're working with? I've found that certain mbuna species can get along with haps and peacocks. For instance, labiatus, acei, and rusty cichlids are generally pretty peaceful and can coexist with peacocks. However, most other mbuna species are way too aggressive and will ...

Re: can someone identify this?
Likely a Labidochromis Caereleus and red zebra cross, these are pretty common in stores, sold under different names. If you're planning to breed, I wouldn't use this fish, just something to keep in mind.

Re: keeping cichlids with bottom feeders
You've got fish from different regions, which can make things tricky. The Rams are South American, so they prefer softer water. On the other hand, your Kenyi is from Lake Malawi in Africa, and the Convict is from Central America - both of these regions have harder water.

Re: predicting the baby's gender
Honestly, the simplest way to determine the sex of your lab is by checking their underside. There are plenty of guides available online that can walk you through the process.
