Re: Why discus fry get stuck?
Crushed flakes might not cut it. Try live baby brine shrimp or microworms. My fry blew up once I switched. Also, keep the lights dim—they stress easy.
Absolutely. Live food's a game-changer. I hatch my own brine shrimp in a 2-liter bottle. Cheap and easy. Raven, you got a breeder box? Might ...

Re: Why discus fry get stuck?
Soft water's good for them. Just watch the pH swings with daily changes. I buffer mine with crushed coral in the filter. Also, if you're using tap water, let it sit for a day to off-gas chlorine. Fry are super sensitive.

Re: Why discus fry get stuck?
That's a bummer. Sponge filters can be tricky with fry. What's the pore size on your sponge? If it's too coarse, they'll get sucked in. I use a fine-pore sponge in my 30-gallon breeder tank, keep the flow low, and feed them baby brine shrimp 3 times a day. Also, check for any sharp edges on the ...

Re: can discus eat live brine shrimp?
Live brine shrimp can be a great treat for them! I've been feeding mine live brine shrimp once a week for about six months now. They go nuts for it. Just make sure you're getting them from a clean source. My tank's a 55-gallon with a canister filter, and I've noticed no issues with water quality. Do ...

Re: why is discus tank always murky?
My discus tank has been cloudy for weeks now. I do weekly 50% water changes, use a Fluval 407 canister filter, and keep the temp at 84°F. Tank is 75 gallons with 6 discus, some cardinal tetras, and a few corydoras. Substrate is sand, and I have some driftwood and Amazon swords. Parameters are 0 ...

Re: wild discus vs captive bred debate
Wild discus are stunning, but they're definitely more sensitive. I've kept both, and the wild ones need pristine water. My setup's similar to yours, 80 gallon, soft water, and I do 60% changes twice a week. They're picky eaters too, took mine a month to accept pellets. If you're up for the challenge ...
