Re: keeping discus in a community tank
My two cents, skip the Angelfish if you're serious about Discus. They're just gonna stress each other out. Also, what's your water change schedule like? Gotta stay on top of it, or you'll run into health issues fast.

Re: cycling a new discus tank safely
Not ideal. Tetras can handle rougher conditions, but Discus are way more sensitive. Fish-in cycles are risky for them—stick to fishless.BlondeBloom wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 6:23 pm I cycled mine with a few tetras first. Not sure if that's safe for Discus, though.

Re: cycling a new discus tank safely
Setting up a new 75-gallon tank for my Discus, gonna cycle it fishless. Got a Fluval FX6, sand substrate, and some driftwood. Water's at 84°F, pH 6.8. How long should I expect the cycle to take before adding them? Heard it's sketchy to rush this.
With that setup, it'll likely take 4–6 weeks ...

Re: discus gill flukes treatment options
Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll try Prazipro at full dose and bump up the water changes to 25% every 3 days during treatment. My tank's got a lot of surface agitation already, so oxygenation should be good.

discus gill flukes treatment options
My discus have been scratching against the driftwood and flashing a lot lately. I'm pretty sure it's gill flukes. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate, pH 6.8. Tank is 75 gallons, temp at 86°F, with sand substrate and a Fluval FX6 filter. Anyone have success with specific ...

Re: Salt Question
Thanks for asking, I don't do it often but every now and then, about once a year, I notice the fish getting a bit stressed, shaking their fins and rubbing on stuff. A small dose of aquarium salt usually sorts it out. I'm pretty on top of water changes, keep the nitrates in check ...

Salt Question
Adding salt to an aquarium is pretty standard practice, we all know that.
My question is, can I use Sifto pool salt, is it basically the same as food grade salt?
