I use a sponge and a razor blade for the glass. It's simple but works. Just be careful with the blade around silicone seams.

I had this issue too. Turned out my substrate was holding a ton of waste, even with vacuuming. Switched to bare bottom and pH stabilized. Maybe check under your sand for gunk buildup?

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll try dimming the lights and see if that helps. The tank is in the living room, so it's kinda busy. I do 30% water changes twice a week, using Seachem Prime. Maybe I'll add some floaters like frogbit.
