Re: Why discus fry get stuck?
Thanks for the tips. The sponge is medium pore, so maybe that's the issue. Water's soft, around 3 dGH. I'll try a finer sponge and reduce the flow.

Why discus fry get stuck?
My discus fry keep getting stuck in the sponge filter. They're about 2 weeks old, in a 20-gallon tank with a sponge filter, temp at 84°F, and I do 50% water changes daily. Anyone know why this happens?

Thanks for all the suggestions! Gonna grab an Eheim Jager and a backup thermometer. Appreciate the tips on redundancy too—might add a second heater later.

Discus fry tank heater choice
Setting up a fry tank for my Discus and need advice on heaters. Current tank is 20 gallons, bare bottom, sponge filter, temp at 84°F. Heater I have is sketchy, keeps fluctuating. What's a reliable brand for fry tanks? Prefer something with precise control.

Thanks for the input, everyone. It's clear there's a lot to consider beyond just dropping them in a tank.

common mistakes in Betta care
I've seen a lot of new keepers make the same mistakes with their bettas. What's the most common issue you've noticed, like small tanks or overfeeding?

Re: wild discus vs captive bred debate
Never kept wild discus, but my captive bred are doing fine. Tank's a 50 gallon, with a hang-on-back filter and no plants. I do 30% water changes weekly, and they're growing well. Feed them flakes and occasional frozen daphnia. Not sure I'd risk the wild ones given how sensitive they're supposed to be.
