Re: can discus eat live brine shrimp?
Just remember to keep an eye on your water params after introducing live food. My 55-gallon's got a sponge filter, and I noticed a slight ammonia spike the first time I tried it. Now I test the water every other day when I feed live. Temp's at 83°F, pH 6.8, and I've got some Anubias in there too.

One more tip: if your tank has shrimp, they'll love the melted leaves. Free biofilm buffet. Just net out the dead bits so they don't spike ammonia. My Amanos cleaned up the melt in days.

Re: is my tank too old for new plants?
I added Cryptocoryne Balansae to my 4-year-old tank last month. It melted a little but now has new leaves. Just keep up with weekly water changes, maybe 30%. Your light's fine for low-tech Crypts.

Re: Eheim Jager submersible depth
My Jager's been chilling at the bottom of a 40g for ages. No drama. But hey, if you're worried, just angle it sideways. Works the same and looks less intimidating.

Re: raising discus fry feeding tricks
Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I'll try increasing feedings and adding microworms. My fry are about 3 weeks old, tank is 40-gallon, temp at 86°F, with a canister filter. Water changes 50% daily. Appreciate the help!

Glad they're improving! Try offering live blackworms if they're refusing pellets. Mine go nuts for 'em after stress. Also, dim the lights for a bit—helps 'em chill.

Good call. Let us know how it goes. Sometimes it's just trial and error with these guys.fail_safe_1 wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 10:05 am Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll try moving it to a higher flow area first and check my alk. Nitrates are at 5 ppm, so not too low.

Re: Torch coral stinging other corals, what to do?
I'd try moving it first. Torches can be aggressive, and trimming might stress it out. What's the flow like in your tank? High flow can sometimes reduce how far their sweepers reach.

Re: why discus swim at tank bottom?
Mine did this after I added new tankmates. Could be a dominance thing if you've got other fish bothering them. What's the stocking like in there? Also, any recent changes to the tank decor or equipment?
