Crooked growth can also stem from nutrient imbalance. You mentioned Flourish, but are you dosing macros too? Anubias are slow growers, but they still need NPK. Test your phosphate and potassium levels if you can.

Why Are My Stems Growing Crooked?
My Anubias stems are growing all crooked and weird. They're in a 20-gallon tank with a Fluval LED light, and I've been dosing with Seachem Flourish twice a week. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. What's gonna fix this?

Thanks for the advice, it's really helpful. I'm in a bit of a tricky situation since I'll be separated from my stuff during the move, and I won't be able to keep an eye on it. I like the idea of a crate, and I think I can find some big boxes at Home Depot - they usually have those from appliances ...
