Re: Is a tank feasible?
Hi everyone,
I'm getting more into African cichlids and thinking of setting up a large tank for my current fish (tiger barbs, clown loaches, plec, rtbs, etc.) and using my existing 110 litre Juwel tank for a small African cichlid setup.
I've attached a photo of the tank.
It's got 2 pieces of ...

Re: Is a tank feasible?
Hi, I'm not familiar with the tank, but I'd estimate it's around 30" long. For a Malawi setup, I think it's a bit too small. However, you could create a nice Tanganyika display with some fascinating behaviour.
If you're looking for some suggestions, you could consider a small shell-dwelling ...

Re: exploring tanganyika cichlids
I've had malawis for ages, and I've recently started keeping Tangys for a few months now. To be honest, I'm finding them pretty similar to care for - as long as you keep their water clean and feed them good quality food, they seem to thrive.
Where you at mate, I've got two tanks overflowing ...

Re: looking for yellow lab breeders in central scotland
Wet and Wild in Stirling usually have them in stock, so a phone call might be worth a shot - 01786473450. Alternatively, the Aquarium in Falkirk had some the last time I checked, their number is 01324631110. If neither of those options work out, I did see a decent price on Aquarist Classifieds ...

Re: setting up a 30 gallon aquarium
My first tank had the same footprint as this one, albeit only 15" high, a 20-gallon setup. I think a Tanganyikan tank could work well here, perhaps with some shell dwellers, julidochromis, or even a nice setup for punctatus. You've got a few options to consider, like a multifasciatus conliny paired ...

Re: finding a suitable tank mate for frontosa
I've heard from folks who keep Fronts that tankmates can be a gamble - either the Fronts get their fins nipped or if the tankmates are small enough, they end up as breakfast. I've even come across stories of Tropheus becoming Front food, which is pretty rough.

Re: keeping tropheus cichlids
Good old lip locking, just them sorting out the pecking order. Hate seeing it, though - it happens in my tank a fair bit too.
Cheers, Sean
ps, nice tank btw

Re: A new landscape for my 240 gallon aquarium
Just tidied up the tank on water change day, got rid of the annoying rocks that kept stubbing my toes. Pulled out a load of sand, moved the plastic logs, and hid the rocks behind them. Water was a right mess, all cloudy from disturbing the substrate and adding sand back in, but it's clearing up ...

Re: discussing julidochromis
I've heard mixed results from people trying to keep Julidochromis in groups, to be honest, it's a real gamble. From what I've gathered, it's generally recommended to get a group of 6 or so, let them form pairs naturally, then rehome the extras - it's just not worth the risk of a tank war.
