Re: request for stock assistance

I wouldn't hesitate to go for Calvus, I've found them to be slow growing and not aggressive at all - mine's a gentle soul, anyway. I agree with flinta, though, Tropheus aren't the best choice, they're algae grazers and can get bloat if fed high-protein foods, which your other fish will need. If you ...

Re: request for stock assistance

I'd advise against the Cyprichromis Nigripinnis Mupulungu for a tank your size, as they generally prefer a bit more length, ideally 4 foot plus. Have you considered Calvus instead, they might be a better fit for your 80cm tank.

Re: setting up a neolamprologus multifasciatus tank in a 36-gallon aquarium

I've come across a lot of mixed views on coflake sand's ability to buffer water, do you happen to know your water's pH? I've found that for tangs, KH and GH are just as important as pH, and you can actually raise them by adding baking soda and Epsom salts - I personally use seachem African lake ...

Re: setting up a neolamprologus multifasciatus tank in a 36-gallon aquarium

Sounds like you're on the right track, filter should work just fine, sexing ratios are spot on as long as they're big enough to sex, if not I'd go with 6 juveniles, but be prepared to remove excess males down the line as they can get pretty aggressive with each other. One thing I'd change is the ...

Re: fish holding - a real attempt

If you don't catch her and she does spit the fry, I reckon they'd struggle to make it anyway with the leleupi and Julies in the tank. They do hold for around three weeks sometimes, and I've known them to go longer. I wish you the best of luck if you do try to catch her, but honestly I'd hang on a ...

Re: fish holding - a real attempt

My experience with cyps is that they stop feeding while holding, but they quickly regain condition after releasing the fry. If you try to net her, she'll likely release the eggs, but they might not be developed enough to survive on their own. What's your tank's stocking like, just out of curiosity ...

salts found in lake water

I'm using Seachem's Lake Flourish in my x-change water for my tang setup, anyone else got an alternative they swear by? I also add Epsom salts and soda bicarb to the mix, so I'm wondering if commercial lake salts are even necessary at this point?

Re: setting up a 33g brichardi and shell dweller tank

No worries about the question, I've seen it happen to plenty of people who think a tank is cycled after just a couple of weeks, 6 Shellie's should be a good starting point though. Which ones are you planning on getting, and will you be keeping them on their own or adding some other fish to the tank?

Your tank is cycled, isn't it?

Re: setting up a 33g brichardi and shell dweller tank

By the way, whereabouts in the UK are you based? I've got a mate who's looking to rehome some multis and I reckon he'd be willing to let them go for less than you'd pay at the LFS.
