Re: keeping an indian ocean clown tang

I think you're underfeeding your clown tang, to be honest. They've got pretty inefficient digestive systems, so they need to eat a lot, all the time. In the wild, they're constantly grazing, and that's what they're used to. I'd say you should be feeding him at least 4-6 times a day, maybe more ...

My blue tang is a total carnivore at heart - loves shrimp, krill, bloodworms, squid, you name it. Thought all tangs were herbvivores, but I guess not. Figured the clown tang would be down with some meat too, like my blue tang ...

Re: keeping an indian ocean clown tang

I think we're on about Acanthurus lineatus, lovely fish, grows to around 15 inches, and it's a herbivore.

seffie, thats the one. With mysis shrimp, it eats it and then spits it back out now - i'm guessing maybe it's just not used to it yet? I tried krill too, figured the attractant would help ...

keeping an indian ocean clown tang

I just got a clown tang a few days ago and it seems pretty healthy - it's always picking at algae on my rocks and swimming around, but I'm having some issues with feeding it. The only thing it'll eat is tiny bits of shrimp, like 2-3 pieces at most. So I know it's eating, just not a lot. I'm ...

Re: Keeping seahorses with coral banded shrimp?

I'm not entirely sure if six line wrasses get along with seahorses, but I do know that mine annihilated my bristleworm population in no time. I'm still on the fence about whether that's a good thing or not, though. Bristleworms aren't all bad - despite being ugly, eating fish, and stinging aquarists ...

My yellow clown goby has stopped eating

I've had this goby for a week now and it still hasn't eaten a thing. It looks healthy, no signs of sickness, but it's super docile. I've tried all sorts of food - live, garlic-soaked frozen spirulina, brine shrimp, you name it.

I'm at a loss, thinking maybe it just won't eat. Recently found out ...

Re: Zoanthids growing in unusual patterns

I saw some similar ones at my LFS and the guy said they were people eaters, wasn't sure if zoas or palys though. They had longer stalks, so I passed. But he's got a frag with 7 nice polyps for $15, I'm hoping it's still there next time. Nice score, they look great.

I'm not convinced stalk ...

Re: Zoanthids growing in unusual patterns

I'm not seeing the grainy stalks that'd point to Palythoa, looks like a nice zoa to me, the green mouth is a typical People Eater trait though.
