Re: Is this catfish venomous to humans?

I'm going to move this over to the marine fish section for now, since it's from the Mediterranean Sea. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge on marine fish can help with the ID soon.

Re: Something's wrong

Melafix isn't gonna cut it for ich, it's a mild antibiotic that only targets certain bacteria and fungi - ich is a protozoan, so it's basically useless in this case.

Re: about engineer gobies

I didn't catch this reply initially, my apologies for the delay. Better late than never, I suppose. I did keep engineer gobies with both cleaner shrimp and firtideflow in the past. Firtideflow aren't a concern since they're free-swimming and steer clear of the gobies' burrows. As for the cleaner ...

Re: about engineer gobies

I've kept several engineer gobies, and while they're interesting to watch when young, they do tend to become more reclusive as adults. Aggression levels can vary between individuals, but generally, they're all bark and no bite. They'll eat anything that fits in their mouth, which is a common trait ...

Re: is this forum's request reasonable?

Moved this to the marine section for more relevant eyes. I'm inclined to think it's a juvenile sweetlips species - any thoughts on that?

Re: Something feels off

To confirm the ammonia reading, I'd recommend double-checking with a different test kit - perhaps one from a local fish store. It's also possible that the 'live' sand you added might not be as live as you thought. If it was exposed to high temperatures during shipping or sat on a shelf for too long ...

Re: Persistent parasitic infestation that won't go away

I've been dealing with a marine velvet outbreak in my '72 Marine display tank since mid-October. I let the tank run fallow, keeping everyone's hands out of it. There's a 20-gallon quarantine tank in the same room, about 6 feet away. I figured parasites aren't airborne, so that's not the issue ...

Re: is my new clown lethargic

A lot of sw fish aren't surface feeders, so it's not a concern if he eats from food that drifts around the tank. Clowns tend to claim a home base and stick to it most of the time - this could be a live anemone, a coral, or even just an ornament. They're not exactly known for being super active ...

Re: A problem with my engineer goby's skin

I'm starting to think the sea hare's slime might be the reason behind the goby's behavior. I've handled a lot of gastropods, and sea hare slime is definitely thicker than most. I've been trying to find some info on what's in it, but so far no luck. The thing is, the goby's only doing this with the ...

Re: A problem with my engineer goby's skin

The bump on the back is still there, although somewhat smaller, but now my engineer goby has managed to acquire a brand new lump on the top of its head. I'm stumped as to how it's getting these...I'm starting to wonder if I need to reposition some of the rocks or something. The smaller rocks can ...
