Re: help, my friend's betta is rotting

I got a photo, and I'm glad I can finally share it with you all. Her fish had to swim from the bottom of the tank into her hand, which shows it still has some strength left. The photo isn't great, but I think it gives a good idea of the infection.

From what I can see, it's a pretty bad infection ...

Re: moving a fish tank: tips and advice

I'm not entirely sure without a visual of your tank to gauge the extent of your hardscape. That being said, assuming a standard 60L tank size, you're probably looking at a relatively short tank, roughly 60cm in length and 30cm in width. In my experience, I've found it manageable to leave sand, small ...

Re: Determining the sex of red jewel cichlids

The fish have been in the 4-foot tank for nearly 20 months now. Given that, I highly doubt I'll see a dead fish or one that gets chewed up anytime soon. The colours fading is also unlikely at this point. Sexing them does seem to be a challenge, though.

Determining the sex of red jewel cichlids

I'd greatly appreciate it if these two are the same gender, either both male or both female.

Re: Can i identify these as hengeli or espei rasboras?

I agree with angelica, they look like hengeli to me. I've had both species in my tank for a while now, and I've got to say, I'm quite familiar with the hengeli - I've had them since September. One thing I've noticed is that they don't seem to spar or spawn, but my espei rasboras do. Actually, I saw ...

Can i identify these as hengeli or espei rasboras?

I recently purchased 10 rasboras, supposedly espei, but they're looking more like hengeli in my QT.

The first video clip - any experienced rasbora keepers care to take a look and offer an ID? You might catch a glimpse of 2 actual espei in there, the last survivors from a group I bought around 2 ...

Re: Green houseplants for lake malawi aquariums

Here's the link to the data I mentioned earlier, it's from malawicichlids.com and it seems that the fish do just as well in lower GH.

https://malawicichlids.com/mw01011.htm#tangph

Seachem's guidelines are interesting, they recommend low GH ranges for these lakes - Lake Victoria being the lowest ...

Green houseplants for lake malawi aquariums

I've come across recommendations for Malawi cichlids to be kept in water with a general hardness of 10 to 20 dGH. However, the total hardness as CaCO3 in Lake Malawi itself is reportedly around 60 - 85 mg/L. If my conversion is correct, this would roughly translate to a range of 3.4 - 5 dGH ...

Re: Choosing a german ram: male or female

I'm totally stumped. Lol!

I'm curious to know if my ram is a boy or girl. I've asked around in some fish groups and got mixed answers. Some people think it's a male because it doesn't have a pink belly, and its dorsal spines are a bit taller.

But then I talked to someone who breeds them and they ...

Re: Causes of fin rot in aquarium fish

Thanks so much for sharing the test results with me, I really appreciate it. Those tests were for water parameters like pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels, but they wouldn't show us if there's a bacterial infection going on. To figure that out, we'd need a vet to run some tests, and that can ...
