Re: discus hiding from tank light

Weirdly, mine got used to the light after a month. 55-gallon with CO2, high-tech plants. They hid at first but now ignore the Chihiros RGB. Maybe it's about acclimation time?

Re: can discus eat flake food?

Thanks for the input, everyone. Sounds like flakes aren't worth the hassle. I'll stick to what's working and maybe try some freeze-dried treats like BoldOne suggested. Appreciate the advice!

can discus eat flake food?

I've been feeding my Discus a mix of frozen bloodworms and pellets, but I'm curious if flake food is okay for them. They're in a 75-gallon tank with sand substrate, driftwood, and a few Amazon swords. Water params are stable, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate, pH 6.8. Temp's at 84°F with a Fluval ...

Re: Why Are My Leaves Turning Yellow?

Another thing to consider is your water hardness. Anubias can be picky about that. If your water's too soft or too hard, it might mess with nutrient uptake. What's your GH and KH like?

Good point. I've had Anubias melt in super soft water before. OP, if you're using RO water, you might need to ...

Re: discus tank algae control methods

What's your nitrate level? High nitrates can fuel algae. I keep mine below 10ppm with more frequent water changes and floating plants like frogbit. They shade the tank and suck up excess nutrients.

Re: Are plants not getting enough soil?

I've been reading up on this stuff, and from what I've gathered, ammonia's basically a byproduct of the fish themselves, their food, and the waste they produce. If you're dealing with ammonia or nitrite levels above 0ppm, I'd recommend doing a 75% water change and giving the substrate a good ...

Are plants not getting enough soil?

I just set up this tank and got some fish last week, but the catch is they were a gift, so I didn't get to cycle it beforehand. The ammonia levels are still pretty high - here are the levels from just 30 minutes ago. I've done a couple of water changes already, 50% yesterday and 25% the day before ...
