To be honest, I've always had a bit of a fear when it comes to breeding Bettas. It's not the actual breeding process itself that worries me, but rather what I'd do with all the babies afterwards.

Re: is a betta the right choice?
Thirty-five bucks for a betta? That's steep. I get she's pretty, but it's a lot for a single fish.
I've got six bettas at home right now, they're not high-end ones though. Before I bring a new betta home, I need to make sure my 5-gallon tank is good to go - it's only had ghost shrimp in it so ...

Re: is a betta the right choice?
To be honest, I'm used to paying way less for my Betta fish, but this place only has high-quality ones, top-notch show quality even. Still, 35 dollars is 35 dollars.

Re: is a betta the right choice?
It's probably the LFS's top-notch care that makes her so pricey. Their Bettas always look stunning, and this one's color is especially striking - is she a Koi or marble?

Re: is a betta the right choice?
I think she's a real beauty, but personally I'd hold off until any water issues are resolved. Just my two cents, I'm only thinking of what I'd do in your shoes.
That's some really wise advice, I appreciate it. I've been testing the tank and the nitrite levels are currently at 0, which they've ...

is a betta the right choice?
I stopped by my LFS about a week ago and that's when I saw her - this gorgeous female Halfmoon Betta. I was immediately smitten, but I couldn't take her home right then. Luckily, when I went back a few days later, she was still there waiting for me. Now I have a cycled, planted 5-gallon tank that's ...

Re: enhance your aquarium with these creative tank decoration ideas
I'm curious about the tank size, how big is it? One 10-pound bag was more than enough for my 5.5-gallon tank, I actually had some leftover.

Re: enhance your aquarium with these creative tank decoration ideas
You can get rocks at local pet stores or aquarium shops, they usually have a variety of them. For plants, I've been using BucePlant.com - they have a great selection and their prices are really reasonable.

Re: enhance your aquarium with these creative tank decoration ideas
I completely agree with going for a more natural look, rollwave. I've found that adding live plants, rocks, and driftwood really makes the tank feel more authentic. You can usually find fish-safe options at local pet stores, they'll have a variety of live plants too. Some easy-to-care-for plants I ...

Re: Can guppies coexist with cherry shrimp?
My guppies have always left the adult cherry shrimp alone, but I'm not too sure about the little ones, to be honest. If you're looking to keep them safe, java moss would definitely be a good idea - lots of hiding spots for the shrimp.
