choosing suitable tank mates for a small aquarium

I'm curious, are there any other fish besides cories that can coexist with a betta in a medium-planted 10g tank? I've read mixed reviews about housing multiple fish with bettas in smaller tanks, so I'm being cautious. What's your experience with this?

Re: Would these plants thrive together in a 5g aquarium?

So I've got an update - the tank is actually going to be 10g, not 5g.

Re: Would these plants thrive together in a 5g aquarium?

When you're doing a silent cycle with plants, they're meant to stay in the tank for good. You might be able to get away with removing the hornwort if you have a bunch of other plants in there too, but if it's the only plant and you take it out, you'll be left with no biological filter to deal with ...

Re: Would these plants thrive together in a 5g aquarium?

I was thinking of adding a couple of hornworts to the tank for a silent cycle - just to help things along initially. Once the cycle's complete, I'd probably remove them, but carefully, of course.

Would these plants thrive together in a 5g aquarium?

I'm setting up a new 5g tank and I'm excited to add some live plants. I've been researching and I've narrowed down my options to these plants - I think they'd look great together. My main concern is, would they all thrive in the same water conditions, and more importantly, would they all fit in a 5g ...

When to start pruning your plants

I just set up a planted tank a couple days ago and I'm curious about pruning. The ludwigia, which was already pretty tall when I planted it, has a couple leaves out of the water now. I'm thinking I should probably trim those off, but I'm not sure how soon I should start pruning in general. Also ...

How to divide a floating water sprite

I was told to prune by cutting off the daughter plants and removing the mother, but I'm still a bit unclear on what a "daughter plant" actually is. Does it have to be a stem that's developed its own roots, or can I just trim any stem? My water sprite is going crazy, by the way - it's really taken ...

Re: Getting started with new order: what to do upon arrival

I'm curious, where did you source your plants from? Got any prized shrimp in the mix? Some plants, depending on their origin, might've been treated with pesticides that can be toxic to those little crustaceans.

If not, you're likely good to go. Just a heads up, there's always a chance you might ...

Getting started with new order: what to do upon arrival

I'm getting some plants online and I'm not sure what to do once they arrive. Acclimating them to water temps is a thing, right? My tank isn't set up yet.

I've got a list of plants I'm planning to get - pearlweed, rotala indica (the rotundiifolia variety), some crypt, dwarf sag, juncus repens, and ...

Re: Choosing between frogbit and water sprite

Water sprite is the winner. I found a Water Sprite variety called thalictroides on the site I'm planning to buy from. Will it be okay for floating, or should I keep looking?
