Re: is my flow too strong for plants?
Ceramic rings are a solid choice. They're inert and won't mess with your water params. Just make sure they're not too bulky, or they'll look weird in the tank.

Re: is my flow too strong for plants?
Dead spots are a legit concern. If you're using a sponge, make sure to clean it regularly. Algae loves clogged sponges, and that's a whole other headache.

Re: is my flow too strong for plants?
Strong flow can be tricky for some plants. Amazon Swords prefer slower currents, but they'll adapt if the roots are secure. How often are you doing water changes? Stability helps.

Re: can discus eat flake food?
Flakes are a no-go for my group too. They're picky eaters, so I stick to frozen brine shrimp and Omega One pellets. Tank's a 90-gallon with a sump, and I keep the pH at 6.5 with peat in the filter. Lighting's on for eight hours a day, and I've got some floating plants to dim it a bit.

Re: raising discus fry feeding tricks
I've had success with a mix of live and powdered food. Fry in a 50-gallon, temp at 86°F, with a HOB filter. Water changes 40% daily. They're active and growing well. What's your tank's pH?

Re: best heater for stable discus tank
Room temp's 68F here, and my Discus are chill with two Aqueon Pro 150Ws. Key is to match heater wattage to tank size—rule of thumb is 5W per gallon. OP, you're underpowered with a single 300W in 75 gallons.

Re: New emperor tetras: Drip acclimation necessary?
I've kept Emperor Tetras for years, and I always drip acclimate. They're pretty hardy, but why risk it? Takes like 30 minutes tops. My tank's similar to yours, 75°F, pH 7.0, and they've been thriving.
Agreed. I've seen fish go into shock from quick acclimation. Not worth the gamble. My tank's ...

Re: why are my discus chasing each other?
Sounds like typical Discus behavior, especially if they're establishing a pecking order. At 4 inches, they're hitting maturity, and dominance battles are common. Your params look solid, but I'd bump water changes to 30% twice a week to reduce stress. Also, try adding more hiding spots—maybe some ...

why are my discus chasing each other?
My Discus have been chasing each other nonstop for the past week. Tank is 75 gallons, temp at 84°F, pH 6.8, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. They're around 4 inches, fed twice daily with frozen bloodworms and beef heart mix. Tankmates are 6 Cardinal Tetras and a pair of Rams. Filter is a Fluval 407 ...

Re: How to
Thanks for the advice. Same tap water for both tanks, and I do 50% water changes twice a week on both.
