I've had luck with Apistogramma Cacatuoides. Their orange/yellow fins pop against Discus, and they're not pushy. Keep caves for them though. My pair shares a 55-gallon, sand substrate, and they ignore each other. Water's at 82°F, pH 7.0.

Agree with checking the filter. I clean my canister every 3 months, but with beef heart, you might need to do it monthly. Also, consider adding more plants like hornwort—they help with water quality and might absorb some of the funk.

My discus been hiding behind the plants since I got them last week. They eat fine but dart away when I come near. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, nitrate around 10ppm. Tank is 75 gallons, temp at 84F, sand substrate, driftwood, and some java fern. Filter's a Fluval 407, weekly 30 ...

Weekly changes are cutting it too close for Discus. They're not like other tropical fish—way more demanding. Bump it to at least twice a week, and see if they perk up. Also, bloodworms are great, but gotta mix in some high-protein pellets or beef heart for growth.
