Re: discus fin damage recovery time

Also, don't forget to check your feeding routine. Overfeeding can dirty the water fast, especially with beef heart. How much are you dropping in per feeding?

Re: discus fin damage recovery time

Mine took forever to heal, like 6 weeks, but my water was sketchy at first. Once I got it sorted, they perked up. You got this, just stay on top of those changes. Btw, what's your lighting schedule? Too much light can stress 'em out.

Re: LED vs T5 for coral growth

My Zoas dig LEDs, but yeah, SPS are picky. Maybe crank up the intensity? I run mine at 80% for 12 hours, but my tank's only 40 gallons.

Re: Discus tank odor problem solver

Man, I hate tank smells. Had a similar vibe last summer. Turned out my filter intake was clogged, so flow was weak. Cleaned that, added an airstone, and boom—smell gone. Maybe check your FX6 intake too?

Re: picking healthy discus at the store

Oh, and don't be shy about asking the store to feed them while you're there. If they refuse to eat, that's another red flag. Re: picking healthy discus at the store

Yeah, and don't forget to check their fins. Clamped fins are a bad sign. I learned that the hard way when I brought home a pair that looked fine but ended up with fin rot. My tank's got a sponge filter, and I feed them frozen bloodworms twice a day. Also, if the store's tanks look dirty, nope outta ...

Re: cloudy water in discus tank woes

Cool, sounds like you're on top of it. If it's not food or params, maybe just give it time. My tank cleared up after I stopped messing with it so much. Sometimes less is more, ya know?

Re: cloudy water in discus tank woes

Sounds like a bacterial bloom, dude. Happened to me last month. How old is the tank? If it's new, it might just need to chill for a bit. My 55-gallon did the same thing after I added a bunch of new plants. Took like a week to clear up.

Your tank and discus are truly a sight to behold, Roland. The pride you must feel is well-deserved, given the beauty and health on display.
