Re: fish survival in prolonged absence of care

It really depends on the tank size and the tank mates. Generally, I'd say no, it's not a good idea to leave fish for a month with just an auto feeder and no water changes.

We've been down this road before, multiple times, yet it seems the message still isn't getting through. Inappropriate ...

Re: Which plants are safe from cichlids?

Considering the type of Africans you're dealing with, their natural habitat is often plant-scarce. For instance, Lake Malawi mbunas thrive around massive rock formations, devoid of live plants. Instead, you'll find rocks, caves, sand, and algae.

I'm less familiar with cichlids from Lake Tanganyika ...

Re: facing a hostile reaction

I'd strongly advise against adding any more fish to that tank, your frontosas are already quite large and the pleco is only going to get bigger, potentially becoming a real handful.

The pictus catfish, being a South American species, isn't compatible with your frontosas due to their differing ...

Re: Easy low-maintenance planting ideas

I've had good luck with java fern in low-maintenance setups, it's quite hardy. I've also got val and anubias in my axolotl tank, which is kept at a pretty low temp of 18 degrees Celsius and is really dimly lit - the axies love cold, dark water and the plants seem to thrive in those conditions. I'm ...
