Re: Discus color strains comparison
Thanks for the insights, everyone. I think I'll give the Red Turquoise a try and see how they do in my setup. I'll keep an eye on the water quality and adjust the lighting if needed.
Good luck! Just remember to acclimate them slowly. I've found they're more sensitive to changes in water params ...

Re: Discus color strains comparison
Red Turquoise are stunning, but they can be a bit more sensitive than Blue Diamonds. I've found they need pristine water to really show their colors. My 90 gallon has a mix of Red Turquoise and Pigeon Bloods, with a sump filter, black sand, and lots of plants. I keep the temp at 86°F and do 40 ...

Re: Discus tank flow for happy fish
Flow's tricky with Discus. I use a Jager heater and keep the filter media clean to avoid turbulence. How old are your fish? Juveniles handle more flow than adults. My group chills near the bottom when the flow's right.

Choosing the right tank size for your aquarium
So I'm back after a year, that's pretty wild. I've been thinking about making some changes to my tank setup.
I've got a 45ish gallon tank right now, but it's not fully stocked. I'm thinking of downsizing to a 20 gallon, it'd be way easier to care for. My current fish are 5 neon tetras, 7 zebra ...

Re: have you ever stopped to think about your tank?
I'd suggest a sloping gradient to break up the evenness. Fill out that back right corner to draw the eye away from the equipment, and trim back those plants on the far left to create a more gradual change.

Discus fish compatibility
I've been considering adding some wild discus to my tank and I'm torn between the Red cuipeau and semi-royal. Which of these do you think are harder and more demanding to care for? Can they be mixed together or would that be a recipe for disaster?

Heater for 5x2x2 feet barebottom aquarium
For a 5x2x2 feet barebottom aquarium for discus, I'd like to know which heater setup would be best. Would two 300 watt heaters be overkill or would one 200 watt and one 250 watt heater be more suitable. I've also heard that higher temperatures are better for discus, but is it safe to keep the ...
