Macroalgae helps, but it's not a standalone fix for large swings. Pair it with proper buffering for best results.

Re: pH swings affecting corals
pH swings that large can definitely stress SPS. First, check your alkalinity levels—they should be stable around 8–9 dKH. Also, are you dosing anything? A calcium reactor or kalkwasser can help stabilize pH if set up correctly.

introducing new tangs to tangs
I'm upgrading from a 90 to a 150 gallon reef tank and I'm excited to stock it with more fish. I currently have a purple tang that somehow survived the great anemone disaster - it got stuck in a pump and wiped out my sailfin, hippo, and naso tangs. Luckily, the purple tang made it through. I'm ...

Re: Identifying this coral species
Honestly, it's tough to say for sure from those pictures, but I'm leaning towards mesenterial filaments. I've set up a 45 gallon quarantine tank, thanks for the advice. I figure a little paranoia goes a long way in keeping my tank healthy.

Re: is there a reef-safe ich treatment?
I'm currently problem-free, just looking for ways to minimize stress when I transfer my fish to the new 150 gallon tank. I've had my fair share of bad advice from local fish stores in the past, and I've lost fish to ich. I'm eager to add new fish soon, but I want to keep the risk of disease as low ...

is there a reef-safe ich treatment?
I've been out of the saltwater scene for a bit, but I've had a 90 gallon live rock f/o tank running smoothly for 5-6 years with the same 8 fish and no issues. Now I'm upgrading to a 150 gallon and I figure the hobby has advanced like technology, so I'm a bit outdated - my knowledge is limited to 7-8 ...

Re: Newbie questions and concerns about coral care
Been there, done that, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
The frag itself might still be okay, but those areas with glue are probably a lost cause.
