Re: Marine fish recommendations from the community

I wouldn't want an 8"+ clown trigger in a 240l tank.

I've been warned about the clown triggers and I'm starting to think they might not be the best choice for this tank.

I'm not sure about the lionfish either - they can get pretty big, can't they? I think I mean Pterois volitans, by the way - is ...

Re: Marine fish recommendations from the community

Hi Sam,

Thanks for sharing your tank setup and the fish you're interested in keeping. I have some thoughts on the ones you've listed.

First off, Clown Triggers are beautiful but they can get massive and quite aggressive, so I'd advise against them for your tanks. The Picclyasso Trigger is also ...

Re: is guppy a saltwater fish?

Handy for feeding to your frog/lion fish...

Probably not the best idea in the long run, though. Brackish and freshwater fish have distinct physiological differences, and repeatedly feeding them freshwater feeders can allegedly cause fatty deposits to form around the liver. Still, it's worth noting ...

Re: Is a 10-gallon saltwater fish tank a viable option

For some basic info on setting up a saltwater tank, I'd recommend checking out the pinned threads in the marine sections. That should give you a good starting point. As for your specific setup, there are just too many variables to consider - tank size, equipment, and the type of system you want to ...

Re: Is this a barracuda?

Barrapyropes get a mention in Reef Fishes Volume 1. They're not exactly suitable for home aquariums, given their size. Public aquariums, on the other hand, might find them an interesting addition to their displays.

These fish are generally found in the more open areas of a reef and, as noted, they ...

Re: information on the blue spotted ray

It's amusing to see you respond with personal attacks instead of addressing the facts. I suppose it's easier to deflect when you have no concrete evidence to back up your claims.

You mention that I spend all my time reading scientific literature, but it only took me a few seconds to find credible ...

Re: information on the blue spotted ray

I'm curious to know if anyone on here keeps blue spotted rays. I don't want one myself, but I do keep reticulated rays in a freshwater tank, which are quite demanding even compared to a fully stocked 150g reef tank. If I ever lose my two freshwater rays, I'd be interested in converting my big tank ...

Re: information on the blue spotted ray

I think the other issue is the size that these rays can grow to, a rectic ray can get to 26" to the tip of its tail and requires a lot of space but having seen blue spotted rays in the red sea you would have to have a massive tank to accommodate.

Are you sure?

The largest blue spotted ribbontail ...

Re: information on the blue spotted ray

check the other thread on the 8x2x2 marine setup, i think there's a post about blue spotted rays in there

I recall a local hobbyist who tried his hand at keeping a blue-spotted ray, but unfortunately, it didn't end well. The poor thing wasn't eating, was severely malnourished, and had that ...
