Re: essential items for a new aquarium kit
I think I'll add a little something for the family too, perhaps a few books to keep them occupied while I'm busy with the tank - a good distraction never hurts.

Re: exploring local fishkeeping communities
You're referring to me and my daughter, I presume. We're pretty much it for the local fish scene, although I'm aware of a few others in the area. However, I've yet to meet anyone who shares my passion for aquascaping and biotopes. I do have a few acquaintances who are less experienced fish ...

Growing riccia fluitans
I've got riccia attached to a submerged piece of wood, wrapped in netting. I've been told not to remove the netting, or the plant won't attach properly. Anyone with experience with riccia - how's the growth if left untrimmed?

how to propagate plants with rhizomes
I've got a BBA issue on my anubias and bolbitis - it's covering the roots and leaves. I'm wondering if I can cut the leaves and trim the roots right back, so I'm just left with the rhizome stuck to the structure. Would this work, or would I end up killing the plants? I'd like to start fresh, but I ...

Re: A discussion about creepy crawlies: insects and other small creatures
I've been doing some digging online and looking at pictures, trying to narrow down what these little critters might be. I think some possibilities could be water boatmen, water slaters, or maybe even mayfly larvae - those last ones seem pretty likely given the description of the pale, transparent ...

A discussion about creepy crawlies: insects and other small creatures
I was thinking of doing a video to show you all, but to be honest, the water's too murky, so it's not worth the effort. I picked up some big clumps of blanket weed from the LFS pond plant section and I've got it in a tiny tank in the garden. There's loads of stuff running around in the water - all ...

Re: Keeping buenos aires tetras with long-finned tankmates
I think temperature might also be a factor with Buenos Aires. They’re only tropical fish in the summer. In winter they’re subtropical, so keeping them at tropical temperatures all year round I imagine would stress them, or maybe it just keeps their energy levels too high so that nipping is a ...

Re: Are fish science flakes a good choice?
I've got a mix going on. Currently, I'm using Omega One flakes, Northfin community formula pellets, Northfin kelp wafers, and Northfin bug pro. Since my tank's mostly small fish, I crush everything up before adding it in.

Re: Is my browning plant dying?
I came across this thing about Excel "melting" certain plants, but I don't really get how it works - just something I read somewhere.

Re: When to restore power after an outage
Hi all, I had another question - do plants mainly consume ammonia during photosynthesis, or do they do it at a similar rate both during the day and at night?
